BMI Calculator for Singapore Adults

Calculate adult BMI and view Singapore-appropriate Asian risk context, limitations and next steps. A private screening estimate, not a diagnosis.

Use the BMI & Risk Context

BMI compares weight with height. It can help with broad population screening, but it cannot measure body fat directly or give a complete picture of one person’s health.

01

How the BMI calculator works

BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. The same formula is used worldwide, while public-health cut-offs can differ. Singapore guidance uses lower points for increased risk in Asian populations because metabolic risk may rise at a lower BMI.

02

What your BMI result cannot tell you

The number does not show fat distribution, fitness, blood pressure, blood tests, sleep or health habits. It can misclassify very muscular people and is not suitable for children or pregnancy. Two people with the same result can have very different health contexts.

03

Use BMI as a screening question, not a grade

If the result concerns you, discuss it alongside waist measurement, family history and relevant checks with a clinician. Rapid or unexplained weight change also deserves assessment. Avoid using a single number to start severe restriction or punish your body.

PART OF A BIGGER PLAN

Keep one screening number in perspective

Use the estimate beside broader health and fitness guidance, without turning it into a grade or a weight-loss instruction.

COMMON QUESTIONS

BMI & Risk Context questions, answered

Which BMI cut-offs does Singapore use?

+

Singapore public-health guidance highlights increasing risk from BMI 23 for Asian adults, with higher risk from BMI 27.5.

Is BMI an accurate body-fat test?

+

No. It is a height-to-weight screening ratio and does not directly measure body composition.

Should athletes use BMI?

+

Very muscular people may be placed in a higher category despite a different body composition, so wider clinical context matters.
